Podcasts That Are Worth Your Time

Podcasts are great! They're like magazine subscriptions that you listen to.. FOR FREE.
Whether you're on a long commute, taking a walk, or washing dishes, they can make mundane tasks less boring, and your free time more entertaining, educational, and inspirational.

But with more than 150.000 available in the market in every field imaginable, it is hard to find something that is worth your time.
I am an avid podcast listener, and this is my pick for the best podcasts out there.

The Top 10

To The Best of Our Knowledge

This show cracks open the world and the ideas that fuel its engine. Very well made, the episodes span a wide variety of topics, ranging from "the power of names" to "cinephilia". Interviews with experts, and fascinating stories, this is really a must listen.

This Is Actually Happening

First-person stories that explore what happens when everything changes. I used to listen to this podcast late at night while taking a walk through calm neighborhoods, I get so consumed that I literally find myself a couple of miles away.

Radiolab

A classic, and one of the earliest I have ever listened to. I think this one has raised the bar for audio production. This is a show where the boundaries blur between science, philosophy, and human experience.

99% Invisible

A show that focuses on design and architecture. One of my favorites. The only drawback is that it gets annoying with the sponsored ads and fundraising campaigns, and I'm not talking about 30 sec, but it sometimes takes 7 or 8 minutes, no kidding.

Love+Radio

Each episode of Love and Radio consists of a mixture of fact and fiction, presented in a series of interviews and stories related to a theme. The show's subjects have been described as "people on the cultural edge" and "intriguing characters who aren’t quite who you think they are when you first meet them."

Internet Business Mastery

This show teaches you how to create an internet based business, unleash a flood of traffic and trigger explosive profits in the new social media age.

On The Media

On the media explores how the media 'sausage' is made, casts an incisive eye on fluctuations in the marketplace of ideas, and examines threats to the freedom of information and expression.

Song Exploder

A podcast where musicians take apart their songs, and piece by piece, tell the story of how they were made. I recommend that you start with the episode about the making of "house of cards" theme song. You're gonna like it especially if you're a fan of the series.

The Public Philosopher

Only 10 episodes long. Has this podcast been longer, it would have become my all time favorite. Public philosopher Michael Sandel visits universities in India, the NL , the US, and other places, and discusses important topics with students open for constructive debates, it is deep and eye opening.

Freakonomics

Often considered as Radiolab's counterpart. This show is about a Rogue Economist Exploring the hidden side of everything.

Honorable mentions

Shut up and sit down

Shut Up & Sit Down offers the world's best board game reviews. The first episodes are of a very bad audio quality though.

Home of the brave

A podcast series about America, it combines original stories with work that previously aired on radio shows.

Reply All

Reply all features stories about how people shape the internet, and how the internet shapes people.
