Things I have learned recently

The alkaline diet

Alkalinity seems to prevent cancer, heart problems, and some other diseases such as GERD, but on the other hand, it looks like a symptomatic solution for our "modern" life style: screen time, stress, sleep deprivation..etc. I think the human body is self regulating, moderation is key. So no, I'm not gonna stop eating eggs, wheat, fish, and meat for now. I'll gradually consume less acidic food though now that I'm aware of it thanks to this chart.
P.S. lemon is highly alkaline, which is counter intuitive.

HIIT: High-intensity interval training

I was arguing with a friend of mine about the best HIIT rhythm for jogging (alternating between high intensity and recovery periods), so I mentioned the study made by McMaster University, Ontario the "one minute exercise" that can substitute 45 min of steady endurance exercise (a bit misleading).. and it goes like this: 2min warming up, 20 sec sprinting, 2 min slow, 20 sec fast,2 min slow, 20 sec fast,2 min cool down.
The sprinting adds up to 60 seconds, but the whole exercise lasts for 9 minutes.
We consulted Google, and it seems that there are plenty of protocols with different combinations of anaerobic exercises and recovery time, all backed by "scientific" data.
Conclusion: HIIT is very beneficial to the cardiovascular health, and it is up to the individual to choose his regimen. Whatever floats your boat.

Global Competitiveness Report

Since 2004, the World Economic Forum ranks countries based on the Global Competitiveness Index (GCI 4.0) that was developed and enhanced by professors from Columbia University, it measures the levels of economic prosperity through the integration of both the macroeconomic and the microeconomics aspects of competitiveness.
Check out how you country is performing.
Note that the US, Switzerland, and Singapore, were always in the top 5 during the last 10 years.

Francesco Francavilla

Francesco Francavilla is an Italian comic book artist known for his retro-pulp-noir-horror style. He has worked for both Marvel Comics (Black Panther, Captain America, Hawkeye) and DC Comics. I discovered one of his blogs recently, and I find his work eye catching.

Belarusian Arabic alphabet

Yes you heard it, Arabic script was used in Belarus.. Not only in Belarus, but also in Poland, and Lithuania among ethnic Lipka Tatars during the 14th century. They were Muslim Tatars invited by the ruler of Grand Duchy of Lithuania to his land. their Alphabet consisted of 28 letter including some phonemes in order to adapt it to their language.
Here's a list of languages that still (or formerly) use Arabic script
